Case Study | RESPIRATORY LIGHT

PART 1 | EIGHT LARGE ARTWORKS transform circulation spaces into ONE UNIFIED VISUAL EXPERIENCE >

MOUNT SINAI OB/GYN PRACTICES

Respiratory Light is a custom art installation created for the new Mount Sinai OB/GYN practice at 348 Amsterdam Avenue in New York City.
Designed specifically for this environment, the project consists of twenty-one original artworkseight large architectural panels and thirteen individual works for exam rooms and physician offices. Together, they create a calm visual experience that complements the architecture while supporting a welcoming patient environment.

THE CHALLENGE

Healthcare environments play an important role in the overall patient experience. Mount Sinai sought artwork that would feel contemporary, calming and timeless while avoiding literal imagery. The objective was to create a visual experience that reduced stress and became an integral part of the architecture rather than simply decorating the walls.

THE CONCEPT

The title Respiratory Light refers to the gentle rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, translated into layers of translucent watercolor, flowing pigments and naturally occurring salt crystallization. The resulting compositions appear to dissolve and reform, creating a quiet sense of movement.

By avoiding literal imagery, the artwork encourages personal interpretation while fostering an atmosphere of calm, openness and reflection.

A UNIFIED EXPERIENCE

Eight Architectural Panels
Rather than designing eight separate artworks throughout the public circulation spaces, the panels were conceived as one continuous composition. As patients, visitors and staff move through the practice, the artwork gradually unfolds—changing in scale, color and detail while maintaining a consistent visual language.

The imagery was carefully developed to complement the architecture, natural light and daily activity of the clinic without overwhelming the environment.

PART 2 | THIRTEEN UNIQUE ARTWORKS for EXAM ROOMS and PHYSICIAN OFFICES>

INDIVIDUAL SPACES

Examination Rooms & Physician Offices
In addition to the large-scale installation, thirteen unique artworks were created for the exam rooms and physician offices.

While each piece belongs to the same visual family, every composition is unique, giving each room its own identity and creating moments of quiet focus for patients, families and medical staff.

BEHIND THE PROCESS

For Respiratory Light, original watercolor paintings, mineral textures and salt crystallization experiments were combined with digital layering to create compositions translated into large-scale installations.

The final pieces were produced as high-resolution textile prints and installed in custom SEG framing systems.
