Now in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum
Renowned curator Barry R. Harwood [ Brooklyn Museum ] said the following about my work…
“Although the 250+ samples from the wallpaper collection at the Brooklyn Museum date mostly from about 1850-1950, the small explosion of new wallpaper designs by local artists has prompted acquisitions of examples of these thoroughly modern and original coverings. The work of Stefan Hengst is especially exciting and of particular interest as he successfully straddles traditional themes as seen in his Andaluz collection that is directly inspired by exotic Hispano-Moresque motives from the Alhambra in Spain on one hand; and then in NY Trash, on the other, he has created a highly original design in response to the everyday modern world around us.”
